PV Jobs

Opportunities for women in construction are more prolific today than at any point in American history. The PVJOBS Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) program is funded by the Department of Labor and allows for pre-apprentice training for women who have no previous experience in construction.
By joining a union apprenticeship program, you would be earning an excellent starting salary and receiving great benefits in a meaningful career. You can train to become an electrician, laborer, carpenter, sheet metal worker, plumber, operating engineer, painter, roofer or floor installer, for example.
PVJOBS will assist you in directly joining a construction union, or help to enroll you in a free, eight-week, unpaid training program that gives basic instruction to prepare students to take the exams needed to enter some construction trades.
Clients who are indentured into one of the trade unions will undertake a paid apprenticeship, which will include a combination of classroom studies and paid on-the-job training.
PVJOBS can assist in securing sponsorships from union contractors, paying union initiation fees, getting bus passes, purchasing tools, and buying work clothing.
Eligibility
Women are eligible who have received a referral from a collaborating agency.
Process
Contact a collaborating agency and obtain an Application for Referral to PVJOBS. You may contact us for assistance in locating an appropriate collaborator. Then attend an orientation held every Thursday (excluding holidays) at 10 a.m. at 4112 S. Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90037. Once this is complete, a one-on-one interview will be scheduled for an assessment. You will then be enrolled in the PVJOBS WANTO Program.
Once enrolled, your information will be input into our database. As we get requests from union contractors, we search the database to find the appropriate client with the correct residency requirement for the project. You will then be referred to the applicable union for indenture and dispatch. As necessary, PVJOBS may provide assistance for tools, union initiation fees, clothing etc.
