2014 Journeys of Courage Luncheon

Journeys of Courage Luncheon, September 24, 2014

The Hon. Lucille Roybal-Allard
Luncheon Emcee, Beverly White, General Assignment Reporter for NBC4 Southern California

More than 300 supporters of PVJOBS gathered as Beverly White, award-winning General Assignment Reporter for NBC4 Southern California, emceed “Journeys of Courage,” the annual PVJOBS Recognition Luncheon on September 24, 2014.

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard presented Ron Miller, Executive Secretary for the Los Angeles/ Orange Counties Building and Construction Trades Council, with the Visionary of the Year award.

The Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project's Walsh/Shea Corridor Constructors received the Contractor of the Year award.

PVJOBS also recognized three participants who have overcome significant barriers on their "Journeys of Courage." Award recipients included James Martinez, a U.S. Veteran who served in Japan after the 2011 tsunami; D'Andre Hill, a 19-year-old former juvenile offender; and LaDaya Epps, a participant who had been homeless.

Epps and Martinez are now employed at the Crenshaw LAX Transit Project, while Hill now works at Phase II of the Playa Vista development.

Additionally, 10 local contractors were honored for exceeding their hiring goals, including Brookfeild Resident Properties, Inc.; Coleman Construction, Inc.; Courtney, Inc.; Harper Construction Co.; ICS/Methane Specialist; Largo Construction, Inc.; Legendary Construction, Inc.; Pinner Construction Company, Inc.; SJ Amoroso Construction Co., Inc.; and Western National Contractors.

The luncheon included a raffle, where guest graciously purchased hundreds of tickets for a chance to win a trip to Aruba. Won’t you also become a gracious supporter? Without your support of our PVJOBS mission, we would not be able to continue celebrating our participants' Journeys of Courage!
